HR forum: new drug testing regulations to be enforced Nov. 1

A Chamber HR forum last week recapped the recent overhaul of Oklahoma’s Workplace Drug Testing Act, which affects many of the regulations and rules Oklahoma employers follow for hiring and employee management practices. The new law goes into effect Nov. 1 and is expected to be a positive, efficient change. The forum, led by Sen. Patrick Anderson, who authored HB 2033, and Charles S. Plumb, attorney at McAfee & Taft, included information on what employers need to do to comply before the effective date of Nov. 1. Plumb encouraged employers to familiarize themselves with the new law and begin implementing changes as soon as possible.
“If you don’t change your policy by Nov. 1, you are contractually obligating yourself to the old law after Nov. 1,” said Plumb.
